‘N’ MPs ask party to table resolution against NRO
Staff Report
LAHORE: Several provincial parliamentarians of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Monday asked the party leadership to table a resolution against the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) in the ongoing session of the Punjab Assembly.
Talking to reporters outside the PA, Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah and Senior Adviser to Chief Minister Sardar Zulfiqar Ahmad Khosa opposed the NRO, saying they would table a resolution after the party leadership’s approval.
Khosa said almost 162 lawmakers of the PML-N had discussed the issue during an important party meeting held on Monday and agreed to oppose the NRO at any given opportunity. He said they would also mobilise the nation against the ordinance.
Khosa demanded the Pakistan People’s Party-led government release the names of the 2,900 politicians, including those from the PML-N, who had benefited from the NRO. He said all these politicians had looted the national exchequer and did not deserve sympathy.
To a question about Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain suggesting President Asif Ali Zardari to resign, Khosa said the PML-N had no links with the MQM on any issue, including the NRO. Later, talking to reporters, Rana Sanaullah said the ordinance was “the remains of the Musharraf regime” and a stigma on the face of parliament.
